‘I have been here all the time. Men may come, men may go, but the earth always remains. I have seen all his previous lives. I have seen hundreds and thousands of lives in which he practised the Perfections. So I bear witness that on account of his practice of these Perfections he is worthy to sit in the seat of the Buddhas of old’ (Sangharakshita - the Earth Goddess bears witness to the Buddha’s right to sit on the Diamond Throne)
Moving from the symbolism of the objects of the mandala, this weekend retreat will start a series of online weekends exploring the symbolism of the mudras, or hand gestures, of the mandala. We start with the mudra of Akshobhya - the ‘earth touching’ mudra. What does it mean to call the earth to witness? How can we embody the qualities of confidence, steadiness and groundedness? How can we call on the Earth goddess to bear witness to our life?
We are running this weekend retreat online so that as many people as possible can join us. It starts at 8pm on Friday night, and ends after the puja at 9pm on Sunday night.
