It’s a great pleasure to be part of the Tiratanaloka team at this time of change and challenge in Triratna as we contemplate our troubled world and seek to address the difficulties through Dharma in action. I was ordained in 2003, Maitreyi was my preceptor and since meeting Buddhism in 1988, I practised at the London Buddhist Centre.
My working lie has always been very important to me, with a rich golden strand of music-making woven through it. I began working as a teacher in Italy and London in the mid 1970’s, ending up in India as programme manager for the Triratna charity, The Karuna Trust. I had taken time out in the 80’s and 90’s to study Indian classical music and met followers of Dr Ambedkar there who showed me the way to meditation and Buddhism.
My particular love at the LBC was working with people who had made an initial commitment to a Buddhist life so when the opportunity came to support women in their preparation for Ordination here at Tiratanaloka, I felt a heart stirring enthusiasm. Fortunately, it all worked out and here I am, part of the team from January 2020 until January 2022.
The connections that are building between us here in the Tiratanaloka team are deep and fulfilling. Little did we know that most of my time here would entail delivering Ordination training on line! The generosity, adaptability and commitment of the women who join us on retreat is a privilege to witness and support. I trust that those connections will last for the rest of my life as we meet in the Order in the future.
